Good morning all,

Here is the issue I am dealing with right now.  We converted our site over to DotNetNuke.  While we are putting it in dotnetnuke, we have been using a placeholder url such as dnn.domain.com until we are ready for the official production launch and the url will change to www.domain.com for example.  Problem is that DotNetNuke is on a different server than our original site so there will be some DNS changes, etc.  Our old urls were something of the nature: www.domain.com/default.aspx?pageid=1000 .  Is there any way to set up something in IIS or in the new Site Redirection Management feature that will allow us to redirect the user to the new page once they attempt to go to www.domain.com/default.aspx?pageid=1000

I tried doing this using the Site Redirection Management to no avail.  Is this feature only for mobile phone?

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Tanya

If you're trying to handle the old URLs, using different ID's than DNN does, you will need to come up with a handler for the mapping.

There are a number of different ways to do this, unfortunately none of them are truly simple, but they need to be done if you want to handle the URLs proper for SEO purposes.

You could use a tool like Ifinity's URL Master to do this, I have a blog post on how I used URL Master along with a custom handler to manage old community server urls, it isn't the cleanest approach, but it worked at the time.

Thanks for the reply.

I did find a module called Redirect Toolkit: http://store.dotnetnuke.com/home/prod...

It actually allows me to create ANY redirect I want to.  So I can take www.domain.com/anytext or www.domain.com/default.aspx?pageid=1034 and point it to any page on my site or any external url.

Therefore, all my old page names which were similar to "default.aspx?pageid=XXXX" can now be redirected to the new page in dotnetnuke.

I will also check out your link to see how else it can be done.

Thanks,

Tanya

My personal opinion here, would be to use URLMaster for this, you can do just what you stated in URLMaster as well.
