I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how to fix an issue with Internet explorer downloading XLS (or any other office document for that matter) when running with an SSL cert. - I always get this error:

Internet Explorer cannot download <page name>.aspx from <server>. Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.

I found this page explaining it to some degree: http://blog.softartisans.com/2011/07/20/downloading-excel-file-internet-explorer-cannot-download-page-aspx/

When I try adding the line to the header of my skin file:

<%@ OutputCache Duration="60" VaryByParam="none" %>

It completely messes with the layout of the site... Can anyone shed some light on how to get this to work right? Thanks.

Here are a few KB articles talking about this:

  • http://support.microsoft.com/kb/234067

Also, based on this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2022960/iis7-set-no-cache-for-all-aspx-pages-but-not-images-css-js you will see that it is stated that by default IIS does not cache aspx pages by default. How does DNN work with Caching?

Can I completely disable it?

OK. So under the host settings I know that you can edit the HTTP headers via the performance section.

I set the Cache Setting to None... and the site comes to a grinding halt (couldn't really test the export function.)

The I tried setting the Authenticated Cacheablity to NoCache andthe site ran fine but did seem to fix the export issue.
