I have just tried to upgrade our development site database from sql2000 to sql2005.

I cannot access the database.
I have done the following:

* backed up the database
* copied the .bak file and placed it into the same folder name and level on the new server
* restored database (by using the above .bak file)
* in security (on sql2005) I have created the same username and password for the db user
* changed the IP address to the new sql2005 server (I can ping this IP ok from the development machine)

when I go to the site in browser, I get this message:
Site Unavailable

when I go to /install.aspx I get this message:

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 5.1.1

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProvider

This is my connection string (which worked ok when using the sql2000 IP address)

 <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=999.9.9.99; Initial Catalog=MyDB;User=TheUser; Password=ThePassword" />
<add key="SiteSqlServer" Value="Data Source=999.9.9.99; Initial Catalog=MyDB;User=TheUser;Password=ThePassword" />

Not sure if it matters, but the mdf and ldf files were placed automatically in a different location to the original server.

any ideas whay I've done wrong or what I can check?
Thanks,
mark.

It is always nice when you get things figured out on your own, thanks for following up with the link to the blog post you used to resolve the issue.

That should help someone in the future when they run into the same issue.
