We have a child portal on our site and the administrator for that child portal has been moved to a different unit.  We do not want the original administrator to have access to the child portal but even with another user given administrator rights, we cannot figure out how to remove the original administrator account.  

When we initially created this portal (via "create new portal") we just used this person as the administrator instead of a generic admin account.  We've since learned from our early mistakes, but we do need to get this particular portal fixed.  Deleting the portal and starting over is not an option for us.  We are using DNN 6.1.5.

It sounds as if the person is still set as portal administrator even though there are other accounts with administrative privilieges. The two things are not exactly the same.

Go to Admin | site settings and find out where you can select the default site admimistrator. You can change this to another user (real or, as you suggest, generic/official) who has administrative rights.

Once you have done that, you can remove the original person from the administrator role, unauthorize or delete the account, whatever you want.

Be aware that emails sent from the portal, if not configured closer to the feature that generates the email, will default to the site administrator's email address as a "from" email address.
