Hi,

We've recently discovered an issue on a DNN instance where editing content within the default HTML/Text module to add links to external URLs and then saving results in the http:// part being stripped from the href property of the a element in the content. This results in any external links being shown as relative links tacked on the end of the base domain and so the external links don't work. Using the preview option after editing content shows the links as they should appear, but after saving I can see the content in the database no longer has the http:// part saved. Doesn't make a difference if I save from WYSIWYG or HTML mode.

We're using DNN 5.6.2 and the default Fck Html Editor Provider 2.0.4, we have the same setup for two other instances without this issue, but for this one site it happens on both a dev machine and production machine where the site on dev was copied over. At some point there was no problem linking to external URLs and this issue has been introduced. I've turned off URL Master to check it wasn't some kind of redirection issue but I believe it's between the editor in the browser and the database when saving, as if some kind of filter is applied.

I've exhausted all my debugging options so was hoping maybe someone else had seen a similar issue or could point me in the right direction. Is it likely to be an editor configuration issue (don't know how it could have changed but still willing to investigate), could it be an IIS or database option somehow interfering...?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

FCKEditor has been deprecated and the version shipped before with DNN is known to have security issues. I strongly suggest upgrading to CkEditor 3 (successor, provider available for free from http://dnnckeditor.codeplex.com) or RadEditor.

Thanks for your response,

I am using DNN version 1.6 which I believe is already using the RAD editor
