@DNNCorp

Is it possible to create a new forum on the social functionality of DNN62X?

This way people have a place to share their knowledge, ideas about how to integrate third party modules, adjust social templates, etc. Currently it is very hard to find the discussions about the social capabilities here on DNN as they seem to be posted on all kinds of forums.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Marc

Great idea Marc.

@capturm and @marc - The functionality of customizing profiles is something Will said he would blog about a while back but hasn't yet - thus prompting Frozen's sarcastic post above chastising me for not being patient enough. hehe

As all of you I'm waiting for migration modules from AS to dnn 6.2. I think the priority of DNN is with the 6.2.1 version, which is good because this will solve a couple of performance issues that are keeping me from an upgrades anyway.

I think I can answer some of the questions. At my company we have played a bit with the social functions, like groups and profiles. What's missing at this moment is the link with forumgroups. This will be release with AF 5. Some other functions are missing too, but these have to be filed by module vendors (e.g. Albums). Because of the extensibility I expect extension modules soon.

The extensability of social groups and profiles is very powerfull. You can create an extra tab in the profile, just by adding a new page under the profile or group page. On this page you have to copy the generic profile / group modules. You canuse specific modules to create the content for this tab. The module vendor has to adapt the module to filter on the group or profile id.

To me this is much more powerfull than what AS offered, because we can use almost every module in the groups and profile pages.

Hope this answered some questions.

Forum content has nothing to do with the Active Social migration. Active Forums works fine with 6.2. When Active Forums 5.0 is released it will simply be a direct upgrade as usual.

We will be providing a utility that moves Active Social Groups to DNN 6.2 Social Groups, Active Social Journal to DNN 6.2 Journal and Active Social User Files to DNN 6.2 User Files. We do not have any immediate plans to migrate private messages, but that might be offered at a later time.

 Will,

Thanks for the response, but I'm still a bit confused.   Assuming I upgrade to 6.2.X and AF 5 when released, can I leave AS in place just for private message usage and will AF 5 still recognize/integrate with it?

 Private messages are a REALLY important/heavily used feature on our site (must more so than groups/profiles).   It really is a deal breaker for me.   If I don't have a viable way to keep PM's working as well as they do today, then I can't upgrade.

 Thanks!
