Hi Guys,

Having a few issues with getting the facebook authentication to work on my site.

Is their anywhere that tells you how to configure the facebook app correctly. As when I login using facebook it does not log me in and now it is saying display name already exists.

Also why does it not have anywhere to associate my DNN account with my facebook/google/twitter accounts. When it does work it logins in as a new user not as my DNN user.

I have read all the help files I can find on DNN. Does anyone have a link to a video or documentation that can explain this or is their still issues with facebook authentication. The whole idea of being able to login with facebook is so that it is connected to your DNN account if you already have one and if not to set one up.

Thanks

Paul

OK Well Seen as I have had no response from anyone I thought I would update this thread myself along with a few insights.

First I fixed the social authentication issue. It seems if you have certain things set on both the security of the portal and the actions of the facebook app then it can cause the whole thing not to work. Easiest way to put this is you have to fiddle till you get the settings the way you want and so that it works. FYI you most likely will not get the settings how you want them to make it work. Rather annoying really.

Second Their is actually no point in DNN even having the social authentication stuff. Why?

Simple. DNN creates a different user for each and every authentication. Would love to know the thinking behind that mad idea.

But basically for me and the majority out their it simply means DNN is not ready to connect socially in the way it needs to. I was going to use DNN for a rather large social network to show how it can be done and save some time coding my own social network. O well suppose I better start coding.

I know the team work hard on DNN and we all appreciate it but this is a real anti climax. If I am wrong then please someone correct me and tell me where I have gone wrong. If not o well it was a nice ride while it lasted.

Thanks

Paul
