No answer, but I am having the same problem... a bug in 7.03? I have had [FIRSTNAME] [LASTNAME] as my display name fore years... now this. At least I know how to let users register again...

Tried changing the display name to something simple like [EMAIL] but the problem returns... oh well...

They key here seems to be the Portal:

AssemblyVersion 7.0.3 PortalID 1

I get different, incorrect and unexpected, behavior when I set tokens for Display Name Format.

There's definitely a bug and possibly multiple bugs based on what I see.in Admin --> Site Settings --> Display Name Format

 I am unable to reproduce the error originally reported even in a Parent and/or Child Portal in CE 7,0.3 running a site w/Parent and Child portals

I do however get this bug: DNN-25710

For those of you hitting the bug first described in this thread please post any changes you made to Admn --> Site Settings --> Registration settings

Also, are you running a single portal or mult-portal environment
