Hello,

I have a strange question, i need to know what is the difference between copy an installed DNN 6 version and install it to a new server?

For example - i have 2 different PCs with IIS on them. Can I install the DNN on PC1 targeting .NET Framework 4 and then copy and paste all file and folder/file permissions to PC2 wwwroot folder and run the website. I see that in web.config machineKey tag is giving an error. Can I manually fix it, is it going to be the only problem?

If you want copy an existing DNN instance to a other Server, you could copy the files and you have to backup the database and restore it on the new SQL Server. Modify both Connection strings of the web.config file to use the new SQL Server URL. Be sure the new SQL Server uses the same SQL user and Password as on the original SQL Server.

Did you modified both Connection string on the DNN roots web.config file,. that you had copied/transfered from the local instance ?  The Server will have a other URL/Name/instancename and perhaps other Login ?  Had you add the Domain Name with that you called the DNN on the new Server to the DNN Portal Settings?

Also check if the Users on your database security have a valid Login username!  E.G. for dbo userthe  Login should be sa or an other user.

There's no need to change the web.config:

Had you add the Domain Name with that you called the DNN on the new Server to the DNN Portal Settings?

I cannot go to the portal settings, at all. because when i write the old url alias it redirects me to ..InstallWizard.aspx
Do you mean a setting on the IIS 7? I just create a web application with the folder name. The old was localhost/dnn6, the new is localhost/dnn62. I tried both of them, but both do not work - http://localhost/dnn62 is giving me "Http Error 404" and http://locahost/dnn6 is giving me "redirect to ...InstallWizard.aspx".
