In the last few days, I've noticed a major increase in the number of people registering on my website. The "people" registering aren't doing anything on the site beyond creating a profile that always includes links to external sites. So, some SEO black-hatter is trying to use my site to generate inbound links to their client's sites.

What should I do? Are other people seeing this? Is there any point of creating profiles when there's no where on the site that links to these profiles?

While I'd like to track stuff down and report this to the proper authorities, i don't have a lot of time to deal with this and mostly I just want to delete the registrations and stop the abuse of my site.

Thoughts?

For a quick fix, I've switched registration to Verified. That should at least force them to use a real email address which will probably make them stop... probably.

I use ActiveSocial 2 Stage Verification - if I have it on, I get around 10 new users a day. If I turn it off and use Public, I get about 40 a day with invalid, bouncing emails - I do not recommend running a site with it set to Public (unfortunately there is a bug in DNN 6.2.3 so Verified does not work)
