Hello, Just trying to do some research on changing up our search that we are using.  What are other folks using for larger sites?  We have around 8,000 some active pages and currently using a zoom search with custom interface.  I was trying to find out more about Lucene Search that I thought was being used in DNN Professional but not seeing to much documentation.  Thanks for any ideas or help

If your site is external, you can use Google Site Search.
http://www.google.com/enterprise/sear...

The pricing is OK dependant on the number of queries:

You can also do some customisation for the various areas of your site, e.g. see this example search:

We have an internal intranet website that isn't that large but I'm very happy with the Lucene search engine in DNN Pro. It can take a while to indexs everything the results are very nice. Being able to index the documents is great.

My advice is to enable it on a custom page and check it out. Just be sure to select your entire site (parent portal and all child portals) in the admin module to index everything. Also, the results module can be set to show results from any or all portals.

Thanks for the replies.  We are currently using Google Site Search and it works pretty well but looking at trying to do more advance options. With the Pro version do you get source for the Lucene search? We just do our pages a little different since we are larger site.  Or can you point the search to a listing of links to do the spidering?

DNN Pro includes (acquired) Xipient OpenSearch module, which spiders the websites like Google or another search engine does, while DNN core search uses a scheduled job to index modules from internally. There are 3rd party extensions for DNN CE search, using Lucene as well (e.g. from Aricie) as well as extensions to include results from MS Index Server (e.g. for office and pfd documents).
