I have three identical servers, in the sense that I took the production server and restored the database and copied the files to a backup server and a development server.

I see the Critical Updates option (icon) show up on the two servers that are hosts registered with my domain (www and www2). However, the development server is not Internet-facing and, as such, I just access it through http://localhost. That server does not show the icon.

Ironically, that's the machine I want to upgrade first. But I am curious why I don't see the option to upgrade on localhost. Is that by design? The machine has full access to the Internet, by the way.

Thanks.

Mark

This relies on the webserver process being able to make an internet request. Your localhost might not be able to do this if you're going through a proxy or something similar.

Hi Scott,

Yes, I could see that would create an issue but the machine has full and complete access to the Internet. In fact, I browsed to the Dotnetnuke.com site just fine from there and downloaded the upgrade package manually from that server.

Not a huge issue but was just curious.

Thanks.

Mark

please check Host Settings, whether "check for upgrades" is turned on.

Hi Sebastian,

Yes that is enabled. That's the bit that confused me - the dev server and the backup servers are exact copies of the production server. I restored the production database and copied the production files so, as far as I know, the configuration is identical. So, it's confusing to me that I'd see any difference at all.

Weird.

Thanks.

Mark
