Robert et al.,

So DNN 7.0.2. is here and there are some changes for me while setting the Profile Photo. I'd say they are for the worse.

You mention that you have been requested for a DNNAPI username and password in your version of DNN CE being either 7.0.0 or 7.0.1.
Well that pop-up did not came up for me in 7.0.0 but when I upgraded to 7.0.1 it was there.
And later on when I upgraded a few days later to v. 7.0.2 the request from DNNAPI disappeared.
Strange behavior indeed.

As to the profile photo issue the 7.0.2 version did not resolve my problems. But I think I might be on some track to find an explanation.
I wonder if any of you who suffer from the profile photo issue could replicate this:
Go to Admin > Site Settings > User Account Settings > Profile Settings and try to check the value of the Photo checkboxes (marked green) or enter the edit mode (marked blue - and change the values in the edit mode) as pictured below

If Update button gets hit I get the following error:
Error: Site Settings is currently unavailable. DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Portals.SiteSettings.UpdatePortal(Object sender, EventArgs e) in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\dotnetnuke\DesktopModules\Admin\Portals\SiteSettings.ascx.cs:line 1249 --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

The question is if any of you have the same result while trying to replicate my actions. If so, the SiteSettings.ascx.cs file above could be the culprit. If so again, then could we have someone from the higher echelons of DNN Help Desk have his/her say as to the remedy of the situation.

If not, then right now I cannot imagine what's wrong with my installation of DNN CE which was upgraded from version ca. 5.6 when I started using it several months back all the way up to version 7.0.2 right now.
Don't know much about debugging methodology of an ASPX application but from the posts of the techs at support page I often see that they try to replicate the errors on clean installs of newest DNN. What about those users who upgrade all the way up?

 Robert, as to your problem with CONTROLBAR I seem to have read about it somewhere in the forum. So you're not alone.

I wonder if my rather lengthy elaboration will get someone's attention.

 PS. Sometimes I think that the app is bursting at the seams and what I'll need to do is a reinstall.

PS2. My configuration could be checked in my user profile, here at the forum profile page as I made it public.

One more thing which I recalled after I posted:

In my DNN 7.0.0 and 7.0.1 there was a button and a drop field to supply an avatar (which did not get applied anyway) while in DNN 7.0.2 there is no such button or drop-field whatsoever!

Strange / funny, isn't it!

Scott and Robert,

I have sorted it out and hope the solution will work for both of you.

  1. asynchronously synchronize files in Files Manager both in Admin and Host (just in case);
  2. go to Host > Site Management and click the icon of the site editing pencil on the left hand side (I can't paste a picture here as it seems to have been blocked just now);
  3. under User Account Settings tab scroll all the way down to Profile Settings;
  4. for the best effect choose AllUsers at Default Profile Visibility Mode and check the Display Profile Visibility check-box;
  5. and now you will have to edit the values in the table below but make sure you do it by clicking the edit pencil icons on the left hand side of the table again rather than by checking the check-boxes on the right;
  6. now the tedious part: upon completing the edition of every single Profile Settings value I'm taken back to the Host > Site Management screen and have to proceed as described above from point 2 to 6 (don't know if it concerns only my install of DNN 7.0.2 but it looks nasty); the edited values get saved, though;
  7. after you're finished with editing the values of Profile Settings you want don't hit the Update button at the bottom of the User Account Settings tab as you will probably face an error info about ... \SiteSettings.ascx.cs:line 1249 (as I do, let's hope it won't bother you at all). Despite that the values entered in Profile Settings seem to have been saved nevertheless;
  8. after all of this you can start editing the profile(s). I do it simply by clicking on my nick's link near the Logout link (that depends on the skin applied in your case);
  9. I hope I didn't overlook anything. If I did, please fell free to post here.

As I said it'd worked for me and GOK how I would like it to work for you. :)

PS. I wonder why they at DNN Corp. blocked the possibility of pasting images (for me - as recently as yesterday I was able to do it in my forum posts here). Any picture can speak more than an avalanche of words.

I am having the same issue uploading profile photos.in 7.0.2

Click on Upload button
Select photo from local directory
Update button changes to 'file name' of photo button
This button does Nothing
leaving no actual upload of file selected.

Same thing happens even in profiles that have previously been uploaded.
...just try changing a profile photo that was previously uploaded.
Nothing happens after selecting a local file. No Upload.

Thanks
PatM

I second Patrick (and previous posters) experience in that the ability to upload/update profile picture has been broken for all user accounts.

I saw Greg's explanation above, but it appears to me that he's only updating the profile picture while being logged in as user. I need to be able to upload/attach a profile picture for each of my users while logged in as site admin.

Since there seems to be no fix for this (or agreement on whether or not it seems to affect everyone or only some), it looks like I might just have to roll back to pre-7.X DNN when the function still worked...
