Here is what I have experienced:

  1. If you did not check "Use Friendly URLs" in the host settings then you do not have an issue renaming pages.
  2. If you checked "Use Friendly URLs" in the host settings and did not change the web.config file then you do not have an issue renaming pages.  For example you change rename the page Messages to Notes, the generated URL changes from http://www.something.com/Messages/tab... to http://www.something.com/Notes/tabid/..., but either will work fine because the tabid is in the URL and that is all that matters.
  3. If you checked "Use Friendly URLs" in the host settings and changed the web.config file of "Human Friendly URLs" then you will have a issue renaming pages.  This is because the tabid is not in the URL and the only reference to the page has changed.  For example you change rename the page Messages to Notes, the generated URL changes from http://www.something.com/Messages.aspx to http://www.something.com/Notes.aspx and they no longer reference the same page.

Thanks,
Greg Hart
