I'm using Windows 8 Home at the moment, installed VS 2010 Pro, then enabled IIS 8 in Windows Components.

I'm not getting any *.aspx Handler Mappings so the DNN site I've restored won't fire up, naturally.

Have tried running aspnet_regiis -i but get the error at the command prompt that an error has occurred and elevation is required.  Since my account is the only one on my system, by default I'm an admin so I've got all the elevation required.

Has anyone run into this?  If I'm making a chair to keyboard interface error, don't be afraid to point it out. :)

Thanks.

Mike,

you should start cmd.exe by right-clicking the file in Windows Explorer, then choose "Run as Administrator", and then enter aspnet_regiis -i.

Best wishes
Michael

Michael,

I knew this. :)  Have not been able to find how to do this on Win 8 Home.

Win 7 is easy enough to do this method. I do it all the time at work.

What the mystery answer is to get to the right place in Win 8 is to press the Windows key + X to run as admin.

http://www.softwareok.com/?seite=faq-Windows-8&faq=7  is the link.

In this list there is Run Cmd Prompt as admin.  This is what I could not find.

btw, I DID find the exe files in windows explorer, did right click and run as admin.  The problem is ... no shell pops up when this is done.  The shell appears, all kinds of things appear to happen in it in the blink of an eye, it closes and accomplishes NOTHING. :)

Doing the above, clicking the run as admin choice, going to explorer and copying and pasting the bleeping path in, then typing in the command you suggest (and no offense but I knew it already) and sure enough, now runs.

Now I'll get breakfast and go to my day job -- my rant on Win 8 is done. :)

Mike, it turns out that while the method located does in fact run the aspet_regiis with no errors, it also does not update the *.aspx handlers at all in IIS for the site.

I'm not sure what it up.  I did not have time to check the results of the run this morning since I catch an express bus to work.

Got home tonight expecting to see *.aspx handler mappings in IIS for the site i question but they were not updated at all.

Since the routine runs something must be happening but not for the default site nor the specific site I have set up.

Has to be some IIS config mistake.  I'm not on a server, I'm on a Windows 8 Home machine.  Perhaps I have to set up a virtual directory?

Not sure what it is, any input is welcome.  But trust me I did run aspnet_regiis.

Thanks,

Mike

In Windows 8 this is all configured in Control Panel --> Programs --> Programs and Features --> Turn WIndows Features on or off... during set up

After initial setup hit IIS Mgr, select the IIS name at the top of the left hand tree and find "Handler Mappings" in the "Features View" in the center

From here you can add/edit/remove handlers
