Good day,

I recently upgraded my website from 5.1.2 to 6.2.6, using the recommended upgrade plan, and overall the update went well. However, I am now experiencing an issue with user accounts.

If I attempt to change or reset a password on any account that existed before the upgrade, I get a success message, but then the new password doesn't work. If I click retrieve password, the received e-mail correctly reflects the new password, but no matter what I do, that new password will not allow me to log in. I get a 'Login Failed. Please remember that passwords are case sensitive' error, with no additional information in the Event Log.

If I create a new account and change the password, it works perfectly. Why would the changed passwords not work with old accounts, when the database is obviously being correctly updated? I have checked to make sure the old profiles are not missing information and that the accounts are authorized and unlocked.

I'm not sure if this is the same situation I ran into once or not.

I restored a database and could not log in to anything.  The cause was not making sure the machine keys in the web config file were copied over.

This should not be an issue now because the procedure using the release.config, renaming it to web.config, copying info from the old web.config, etc. does not apply.

it's just a guess but check the machine keys between your 5.x web.config and your current web.config -- they probably were copied over automatically.  Check that and let me know what you find.

Thanks,

Mike
