I have a client who wants to create a web site with a members area.  He currently has an offline database of 40,000 users.  He wants all of these to be imported.  He also aims to have the membership reach 1 million(!) members in 12 months.  How many users will DNN handle?  Is the limitation just based on the number of rows in a SQL Server table?

Also, he wants to be able to email all of the users in the database.  Obviously, DNN's email manager won't cope with this volume of users.  Would it be possible to write a module to export the list of DNN users emails to be merged into an offline CSM?  Does anyone recommend any third party offline email managers or CSM's which can handle huge volumes of users?  It must be able to group users, add custom fields for each user, have template support for sending out custom HTML emails etc.  Also, if it supports SMS messages as well to mobile phone numbers, then even better!

By CSM, I do of course mean CRM

Could someone answer this, as it's quite urgent, thanks.

To answer the first questions.  This site has 300,000 users (with typically up to 1000 online at any time).  While we have had some issues with our initial upgrade to 4.3.1 (due to bad performing SQL which has now been fixed), there is no reason to believe that 1,000,000 users would be an issue.

With regard to the email management - there is no reason that you couldn't right a simple export procedure (either in code) or in SQL to export your users for use by a 3rd party mail manager.

Check snowcovered.com to see if there are any modules already out there.

Thanks Charles, does anyone recommend a good third party email manager for handling a large volume of contacts?
