I'm running a site on an (admittedly) old version of DNN (3.2.2 to be exact). The other day I was googling a phrase that was present in a document that was stored on the site. When I clicked on the link (to a PDF) on the search results page, it opened without any prompts for a login. I tried this again with a few document links across the site (copied the link, opened a fresh browser session, pasted the link, and clicked go) and all of them opened without issue. I tried these same steps with a site running the latest version of DNN, and it required user login before being able to view the document, as it should.

I'd like to A) make it so any potential document retrievals and page views require an authenticated logged-in user, and B) remove the pages from any search engine indexers. Unfortunately, I can't find a setting for either. Is this a gaping security hole in older versions of DNN, or am I just looking for these settings in the wrong places?

Matt,
Not sure if I've every used DNN3...so I don't know if these options are available.
First, the folder containing the files must be created as a Secure folder. This way, the files are NOT accessible via a direct link.
Second, to exclude the pages from Search engines, you would need to use the tools on each search engine to request removal. However, you'll need to add some meta tags to the pages.
meta name="robots" content="noindex, noarchive, nofollow"
DNN7 lets you exclude pages from search engines in Page Settings.
Also, you'll want to check your IIS settings and make sure folder browsing is NOT enabled.
