I am one of the Systems Engineers at Bayshore Solutions. We had the same issues on Win 2012 servers as described in this thread. To resolve the issue, we uninstalled the Newtonsoft.Json.dll that was installed in the GAC with the method described in the following:

http://camerondwyer.wordpress.com/201...

We then copied the Newtonsoft.Json.dll from the bin folder in the DotNetNuke v 7.3.1 install package and installed it in the GAC using the same method described in the above article. After doing so, all the dropdown issues we had in DNN have been resolved.

The problem ended when the hosting service installed exact DotNetNuke Newtonsoft DLL in their GAC instead of the one they had (more recent version)
thank you and thanks to the flexibility of hosting provider (Sector Link)

While it is nice that some hosting providers like this will install an older version of Newtonsoft DLL just to make DNN work properly, the rest of us are still living with this issue, especially on shared hosting.

Can we expect a proper solution to appear in a (near) future release of DNN?

I created an issue (https://dnntracker.atlassian.net/brow...) and assigned it to 7.4.0 (though that final decision is not mine)

It will be one of the challenges for DNN community to limit references to 3rd party libraries - and Telerik will have a higher priority on this.

The resolution for issue has just been pushed from 7.4.1 to 7.5.0.

As I don't see 7.4.1 on the release schedule any more, I am guessing that 7.5.0, which is in Alpha release as of yesterday, is the next release.

Haven't found a release date projection for 7.5.0 yet.
