Hi All,

Love the ability to set Page Urls in DNN 7 but I have come across a little problem when changing the page URL for theHome page

Initially it was /Home but I want my home page url to be a plain / or nothing at all. I know I do not need to change this to be able to access the site without the /Home but the Sitemap.aspx lists the home page with the /Home

For SEO purposes that means I theoretically have 2 pages with the same content "/" and "/Home". Not good to have duplicate content

I also know I can setup a redirect but thats an extra step that I would like to avoid unless I really have to

So I went into the page settings and set the Page Url to "/". Worked great.....until I tried to edit anything on my home page

Example, when I try to edit the content of a Html module, I get the popup window as usual but instead of the wysiwyg editor appearing I get a 404 page not found message in the popup. As the popup contains an Iframe it seems that using "/" as the home page url messes up the iframe URL used to load the editor control.

This same problem occurs if I try to edit the home page settings which caused me a little problem when trying to set the page url back to /Home. I had to go into the database and change the setting manually

I am currently using DNN 7.2 but the same problem was in an earlier 7.x version.

Anyone have any ideas how I can achieve a blank or "/" page url for the home page in the SiteMap.aspx without getting this 404's when I try to edit anything on that page

Many thanks in advance for any help and advice given

Tony

Hi,

Check if your Home page is set in Site Settings.

Normally what you ask, is automatically done by the new advanced url rewriter.

Hi Sacha,

The home page is correctly set in the settings.

The problem is not getting to the home page but when trying to edit anything on the home page, including editing the page settings. When the popup window opens, where you would normally do the editing, there is a 404 page not found error. This popup window usually displays an iframe to the control.

You can see a screenshot of the error message here

This particular error happens when I selected "Page Settings" but the same thing comes up when I try to edit the content of a html module on this page

The url of the iframe in this case is http://mydomain.com//ctl/Tab/action/edit/activeTab/settingTab?popUp=true

Note the // where usually it would say /home/

However on the upside the home page url in the site map looks great

<loc>http://mydomain.com/</loc>

instead of

<loc>http://mydomain.com/home</loc>

Regards

Tony

Bumping this thread... Because I just ran into the same situation. I changed home page URL to / and now I get this error. I think DNN should handle this situation and not end up half-broken. Is there any fix for this? Thanks.

Hi I've just ran into the same situation. I've done two changes in my DNN config. First I changed homepage URL to /. Second I disabled English in languages, because my site should be Czech only. The language setting actually is what broke the site, I think. Because the Page Settings site was unaccessible for me (404), I manually edited homepage URL in the database to be /Home again, which did NOT solve the issue. On the other hand enabling English again did the trick, because language code is now being inserted in URLs and I get no more 404s while trying to acces Page Settings.

However this actually troubles me, because I don't want to run multilanguage portal, I don't want my lang code (cz-cs) in my URLs and especially I don't want to take care about two lang versions (I've seen site logo mysteriously disappearing multiple times in the past in multilang setups etc.).

Is there any solution to have only one language enabled, but still be able to access Page settings?

BTW the URL rewriter probably handled the change from Home to / well, because in my TabUrls table are now two records for this tab: /Home (301) and / (200).

Thanks for any input on this, it's making me crazy, because my four days long work now seems to be for nothing (do I have to start over with my project? would anything be any different? I would also have to deal with XMod Pro licensing).
