Hi,

... I've never seen this before.

One of my client websites started getting large numbers of registrations - which might seem OK, bit I'm sure that this is some sort of SPAM/DDOS thing as there are significant number of incorrect email addresses coming back to me....

The site was on 'Public' registration, but I switched to 'verified' and turned on Captcha, which I thought would stop the activity, but it hasn't.

Assuming this to be an automated 'attack', I thought that the Captcha would stop that.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

regards,
Duncan.

Post Edit:
Having written this, I then saw a recent thread on much the same subject and a link to Linked-in discussion at https://www.linkedin.com/groupItem?ty...

It seems there is real spate of these spam messages across the DNN websites (and others, no doubt).

Taking the registration private isn't an option as, like others, this client site has a retail shopping function.
I can't quite understand why CAPTCHA doesn't prevent registration - can anyone explain that?
... because if necessary, I can always write a module that co-operates with the registration procedure that is sufficiently non-standard to prevent bots from registering....

Hi,

I am having the same issue with my DNN website to. I have been getting like 200 bot (I think there bots because they never verify their email or anything) accounts or so a day. I am wondering how to fix it, these accounts are getting really annoying now, it may or may not look good to Google (I highly doubt it does) but i have no idea.

I really don't know how to fix it, i have a CAPTCHA and Verification set-up but so far i'm still getting a bunch of account sign-ups. I woke up with 40 new sign-ups.

If you find out how to fix it please let me know, and if i find how to fix it i'll be sure to let you know.

Thanks, Pogona.
