I am having the same problem as  the post with 12 pages of replies and no apparent solution.

Verified registration with captch don't seem to stop them. The server is maxing 100% most of the time.

i have 46000 new user registrations........on a development site that is just a workspace for me... thank god.

I have 2000 however on a more important site.

I did notice some type of injection attempt as well as unhandled exception in the net 4 framwork.

There is too much going on here that is above my paygrade.

We do need some help from the DNN team to secure this problem:

this is occuring between login attempts after i disabled registrations.

I had the same problem and had it resolved.

Create a totally new page called Site-Registration (avoid using common Page names) - add in that module the DNN's Account registration module use in that page a verified membership way with a Gatcha (?) method [am not sure about the correct naming now] but I know you will understand it.

see the following posts - they really helped my case and now I don't have any spamming registrations - the 1st one is the most important - but see the others as well - the 3rd one is important as a general common case with DNN installations around the world:

Hi,

As Sebastian has said, you should look through the other answers/solutions to try to stop this but I know that it is quite hard to find a solution that works with so many posts.

To help you out, PowerDnn has a good solution/work around via a post they did, it can be found here

Look at the last part about replacing the3 Dnn Captcha with the Google reCaptcha.

Or, because you said that, because it is a dev server maybe the best ( and easiest) way is to just set the registration to "None"...

Go to Admin > Site Settings > User Account Settings then choose 'None' for 'user registration' at the top.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Geoff
