I need to upgrade a site from 6.2.3 to 7.3.

This site has been upgraded since DNN 2.0, and has accumulated a few problems along the way and the normal upgrade process causes too many errors.  I have been attempting to (1) portal export/import then (2) page export/import (both WITH content) but  am running into the same problem with both methods.

The export function creates an XML file that does include the content (Only the HTML module involved on most pages) but the content is never imported .   I can export/import the content separately and that works fine.

I suspect that there may be some problem with  the XML file that 6.2.3 produces, but am not sure how to trouble shoot it.  Is there a reference somewhere as to how the file XML should be structured or does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be?

what are the issues you are facing after the upgrade?
We are running a couple of websites, upgrades from DNN 3 w/o errors, why do you want to use site export?

Thanks for replying.

The upgrade issues are myriad - too many to enumerate.. There are database remnants from old, no longer supported modules, and programs left over from the same.  I want to transfer the current content to a NEW install.  I am not interested in the trauma of another upgrade.  If the only way to accomplish this is to copy/paste content  one page at a time , that is what I will do, but I was hoping to streamline the process as much as possible.

Some ideas ...

It might be that that you can export pages, rather than the entire portal, and import them successfully to the new install.

If the problem is going between 6 and 7, you might consider exporting the portal and then importing it into a clean 6.x install. That might then be upgradeable to 7.

How are you trying to import the site export? Are you creating a template from the old site...copying the template (and resources file) into the new copy...and then creating a new site based on the template you copied into the new copy?
