Hello,

I have a skin using Bootstrap that has five main panes: a header row, then a row with three columns, then a footer row.

The "ContentPane" is the center column in the middle row.

The trouble I'm having is that when you view a specific module (by having "/mid/X" in the URL), DNN places it in the "ContentPane". But, with Bootstrap, the left and right columns don't hide, and so the content pane leaves a bunch of extra space on the left and right. In other words, I want those placed in the "HeaderPane" or something that's full-width.

I have this problem in a number of random places, but it's particularly annoying in the "Edit Profile" popups, which refer to a specific control, that is then placed in the ContentPane.

We have a very large site, and so changing the ContentPane to be in the header isn't really feasible.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Can you just add another full-width pane below the header and call it contentPane?

You would then rename the other one to middlePane or something similar. If you do not apply any other css to the new contentPane div, it should just collapse when not in use, and not affect the existing pages.

DNN always places the controls in the contentPane, because that pane is required in every skin, so it always exists.

Hi Ben,

Thanks - that's what I thought.

My concern with doing that was that any modules currently in the "ContentPane" on the site will suddenly be in the wrong place when using that skin. I guess I could use some db script to move them...

Down the road, it might be nice to have an Admin setting or skin-level setting for "Default Pane". Even a simple attribute I could apply to a pane would do - like runat="server" id="TopPane" defaultPane="True"... then, if it's specified, have DNN use that instead of the ContentPane.

Anyway - thanks for your help.

Mike

Updating the panes should be as simple as

UPDATE TabModules SET PaneName = 'MiddlePane' WHERE PaneName = 'ContentPane'

Of course that would hit every page on the site, including other portals or pages with different skins.

As always, if you try that approach, make a backup of your database first. Also, you need to recycle the application pool in order to see the changes.

each skin should have "ContentPane", which is default pane for edit mode and any module, if the stored pane name is not found (yes, DNN stores pane names).
You may use a dedicated "edit" skin in Site Settings, which might use content pane in full width.
