ERROR: The Site Alias Name You Specified Already Exists. Please Choose A Different Site Alias.

DNN INFO:
Product: DNN Platform
Version: 07.03.03 (117)
Data Provider: SqlDataProvider
.NET Framework: 4.0

------------------------------------------------------------------

We are trying to add new alias's into the DNN and keep getting this error.  We even used names like TEST.xxxxx.com or ABC123.xxxx.com.  Of course those do not exist.  The xxxx.com is the actual URL.

After doing some research I found out some information. Lets use ABC123.com as the primary URL that we want to use.

IF we are developing a website for a new client we generally do the site name or abbreviation then .abc123.com

For example: HDS.abc123.com or THDH.abc123.com

I found out that you can only do ONE. If you try to have more than 1 site as listed in the example above you will receive this error. So to test it out I created a DNN site to a different URL and it worked. EXAMPLE: HDS.newsite.com

Being a design company we like to use our url in the development of a new site. OR if we have a client who doesn't have a domain name yet we can still start to work on the site until he purchase the name and then we can point it to their URL when completed. How can we fix this?

AFAIR, there has been an issue reported on this, which is scheduled to be fixed in one of the next versions.

I'm unpleasantly surprised that after all this time and all these upgrades, the bug still exists in much later versions, e.g. 7.3.4 !!

I'm getting the same error on 7.3.4 !!

The link http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/V... that Erik is proposing is not of course available after all these years since 2006 !

People reporting the same issue in various Community posts:

http://www.dnnsoftware.com/forums/for...

http://www.dnnsoftware.com/forums/for...

I'll paste the same reply on all the above just to unite & aggregate the open issue!

So hopeless !
