When logged out, I still see the Mode that indicate "View", "Edit" "Preview" which are normally only available while logged in.  It only appears on the Home page and doesn't allow anyone to make any edits but how do I remove it?

Double check the permissions of the page and each module on that page. Normally, there's a module somewhere in that page where All Users were granted Edit permissions. Non-authenticated users can't switch to Edit mode anyway, but the drop-down will still display.

as Mike said: check permissions for page and each module on the page, there shouldn't be edit permission granted to "All Users" or "Unauthenticated Users" role for any of it.
