Hi all.....

After being swamped with requests from my family, I decided to add a portal to my existing portal so that my out of state family members can upload and download family pictures.......

I plan to make the portal a private one just for family members. (because I plan to allow them to upload and I don't want that feature enabled on my public site).  Is there a way that I can move a module (in this case, it is an existing picture gallery) from one portal to another without losing the existing pictures?  and if so, can you point me in the right direction on how it can be accomplished?

What module is it - gallery or another one?

Do you intend to "move" or copy it?

The gallery module uses an XML doc, so you might ask in that forum how to accomplish if that's used. If it is another and it uses the DB to store the references, just change the portal assigned in all related tables to the new portal and module ID.  Of course you probably need to edit the URL's for the files once you move them - unless you keep them in place and the module serves the photos as is.  Just remember never to blow away that portal if you leave them there.

I intend on moving the module to a new portal which I am creating to be only a gallery.  I am using Ultra Photo Gallery from Bizmodules which is a flash-enabled viewer.  Your comments gave me the idea that maybe I should ask them if if I can move the existing module to a new portal.  Thanks for your comments.

There's a great module for this from DNN Masters.  It allows you to easily move, shadow, or copy modules between different portals.
