The Site resource file had the old text. I don't see anything changed on there that I would have related to email. However, I am sure I changed other text values in the past.

I wonder if this means that won't get updated with changes made by DNN in new releases???

it is a feature of DNN that resource file customizations on site or host level are kept during upgrades - which has a downside for those few ones with specia functions.

Yes they should be kept however as you can tell this is a major issue. I spent 8 hours on just this issue. There is no way to know if this has happened before or will happen again.

Ideally what would happen is a comparison would be made between the default value and the current value as to if an upgrade should modify the resource value even for modified files.

I would think this particular issue would affect thousands of installs.

 

If I click Delete (File) that will go back to the default settings then right?

99% of the resource keys are texts simply displayed on the pages, there might be users who modified these texts intensively and for sure don't want to redo or revisit all during an upgrade.
I agree, we should consider additional options to prevent these cases, but presumably in an total overhaul of localization for DNN neXt.

if you delete a resource file with customizations, it will pickup the default.
