Hi.  I bet that I'm overlooking something silly.  I had a DNN 6.2.9 site that had the "retrieve password" option on the login page, and it allowed users to retrieve their password based on the username.  Then I upgraded the site to DNN 7.3.4, and now I only get the "reset password" option on the login page.

Here's the corresponding entry from the web.config:

<add name="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider" connectionStringName="SiteSqlServer" enablePasswordRetrieval="true" enablePasswordReset="true" requiresQuestionAndAnswer="false" minRequiredPasswordLength="7" minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="0" requiresUniqueEmail="false" passwordFormat="Encrypted" applicationName="DotNetNuke" description="Stores and retrieves membership data from the local Microsoft SQL Server database" />

What am I overlooking here?

See Ya! Van

Accepted Answer
for security reasons, passwords are no longer emailed in plain text over the Internet.
New sites use hashed Passwords by Default, which cannot be decrypted upon request.

Sebastian:

Ah! That makes sense!

So what you are saying is that even though the passwords in this particular site are encrypted and not hashed, DNN 7 no longer honors the "enablePasswordRetrieval" setting within ASP.NET Membership. Understood.

I suggest switching to hashed Passwords - this will affect users only, who change/reset their password.

7.3.3 Users can't retrieve password.. the password is blank in the email. Reset password send the same email not the reset link.

Was this fixed in 7.3.4??
