Good day!  We are having a major catastrophe with our DNN and it is beyond explanation.  We need to know the safest way to backup a DNN install with about 15 sites associated with this install.  Once the backup is completed we need to know how to completely remove the DNN from that domain and re install the newest version.  7.03.03 is pretty much destroyed for some reason

Thank you!

Didn't you perform freqent backups of the database and all files?
for the database backup use SQL Server management studio, right click on database node and select tast > Backup
for files use zip or any file backup tool.

to restore at a different location you might need to configure IIS website, grant file system permissions and adopt both connection strings in web.config. if the domain name changed, you might need to adopt primary site alias in PortalAlias table manually.

We do a backup of the database multiple times a week.  I just don't want to loose any content and want to make sure we don't mess this up and cause issues for the clients under that one DNN install.

We were using 7.03.03 and the DNN was so screwed up that it was missing 4 modules from the admin. The edit feature was destroyed. The drop down menus when logged in would not retract. We try to upgrade to 7.04.04 and it had an error at 50% when trying to update module DDRMenu. So the question still remains. We have a good backup but we were looking for a way to back it up and do a clean sweep of DNN and import the sites back or some way of bringing the sites back into a new database if possible. When we do a NEW install and use the old database and users it is still missing the DNN admin modules.

Hi Micheal,

For backups we use the Evotiva Backup module which works great and I strongly recommend this module to anyone. You can find the module here and will be able to test it locally for free.

W have moved Dnn install from 1 server to another easily with this module.

The other way of course is to manually backup your install...

-copy all files in the Dnn install directory

-Create a backup of your database (native backup)

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Geoff
