I have what I thought was a simple question… but after tons of Googling I haven’t found a straight answer.
[For reference, I’m on DNN Platform 07.03.04 (45)]
Our website utilizes forms to collect contact info from visitors for lead gen purposes. Our forms are provided by a marketing automation service.
We have several online promotions ongoing, from Google ads, display ads, retargeting ads, industry portal banner sponsorships, etc…
Especially for the industry portal banners, I’d like to better track lead source for banner clicks. I would like to incorporate tracking code in the URLs that the banners click-thru to.
For example, on the www.information-management.com website, I’d like to assign the following URL to a clickable banner ad: profisee.com/singleview/ref=i-m. In the form on my website, I will have it add the URL of the page to the submission email we receive with the visitor’s contact info.
My question is: “Is it OK to append tracking info to the end of a DNN Friendly URL?” I have tested the link in IE, Firefox, and Chrome and it always take me to the correct “/singleview” page, yet retains the appended referral code (ref=i-m)… So, the website form would be able to grab the appropriate URL (with tracking info) and when we receive the lead info email, we’ll know *without a doubt* how to flag the lead source in Salesforce. However, I’d like to double check with the brilliant DNN Community to make SURE that there’s no other known issue about why this would not be a good idea for a DNN website.
