DNN:  07.04.01

I created a folder in the File Manager and have set permissions so that only Administrators should be able to access files in the new folder.

However, if I browse to http://mysite.com/Portals/3/myfolder/myfile.pdf, the file is served.

What am I missing?

Joseph,
you need to create a folder of type "secure (File System)" to prevent access by path.
DNN will use LinkClick handler to provide the download, which checks permissions.

Sebastian,

Yes, it is a Secure folder. So the actual filenames have the extra extension added.

But ... shouldn't I also be able to add role based security to the folder, to require that someone who wants do download a file to be logged in? What I want is for users who are not logged in and not in the correct role to NOT be able to download a file even if they know the un-obfuscated filename.

Joseph,
files in secure folders get added the extension .resources, which are not delivered by IIS (default configuration);
it requires to use linkclick.aspx to get delivered, which checks folder permission.
