So, I'm adding users that are in one child portal to a different child portal on the same instance. When I try to add them I get an error message saying the user exists, when clearly they do not already exist in that Child portal. When I add the user using the exact same info (username, display name, password, email) it allows it and then I see this: http://www.screencast.com/t/wRdgjtlTU.

My questions are: are the user databases from child portals linked to Portal 0 or Portal x, and if so, how? Also, is there a way to break the connection?

Yes, all the data is connected. The Usernames must been unique across an Instance of DNN.

IF you put in the same username, password, etc, DNN will LINK the user to BOTH sites/portals. Some call this a feature, some call it a bug.

Every User exists in the USERS table, if they exist in UserPortals though controls which Sites they are part of.
