Hi,

Whenever I share a link to one of my DNN sites on Facebook, it shows a generic message with "your browser is out of date" instead of the actual page description etc...

Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to change it?

Thanks,

Josiah

What browser are you on?

It's not actually my browser (although I have tried these steps on both IE 11, Edge, and Chrome).

I am posting a link to Facebook and when you do this Facebook automatically grabs content from the page to create the post. So it is technically the "browser" or crawler on FB's side that is getting the content and then generating the info to post.

I found out that it most likely has to do with the skin/theme I am using because none of the other portals on this DNN instance get this result. You will see what I mean if you try on FB to post a link to http://sonomalighthouse.com , this is when the browser message is generated by FB. Other website links show a snipet of the page content.

Is there something I could look for in my skin that might be causing this?

Check your /websiteresponsive/data/js/website.js, this is where it originates. So yes, this is coming from your skin.

OK, thanks. I found the lines and removed them. All good now.

And just in case someone else has this issue, Facebook has a tool I came across that helped me get the links to generate proper info: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/
