I am getting a lot of page exception errors because DDR Menu is not found. Now that is entirely reasonable since I uninstalled it because I understand that it is obsolete since it relies upon solpart which was removed in dnn 8.

Is my assumption correct that DDR Menu is obsolete for dnn 8?

it is not obsolete. I found version 8.0.1 in the dnn upgrade package of the same version, and installed it. no module seems to be using it, but if it cuts down on general exception faults, I will leave it in.

DDR menu skin object is used by DNN for default menu and many module actions.
DDR menu is not connected to SolPart.

it's not as simple as I thought. the latest ddr menu installation has a folder called SolPart. not sure if the components are referenced or called, but they exist in the installation for dnn 8.

the solpartmenu.ascx has this line of code

<%@ Control language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" Explicit="True" Inherits="DotNetNuke.Web.DDRMenu.SolPartSkinObject"%>

solpart may not be dead after all.

also the admin folder contains controls referencing solpart -

\admin\Containers\actions.ascx(1)

<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="false" Inherits="DotNetNuke.UI.WebControls.SolPartActions"%>
