On one of my page; I have a dropdown list which contains file path like mydocs\NewDocs

I am trying to figure out the location where these files are stored

If you are looking for the physical location of these files, there are different possibilities depending on how the folder was created:

  • Normal or secure folder:
    the files are stored under the DNN installation directory in a folder called /Portals/x/mydocs/NewDocs (where x = your Portal ID, eg, 0). In a secure folder, ".resources" is added to the filename.
  • Database folder: The folder described above exists but is empty as the files are stored in the database.

You should not add or delete files there by FTP or Windows Explorer as the file information is also stored in the database and the system will get out of sync (which you can fix by synchronizing the folder via the DNN file manager).

I was able to locate the files on the server by performing a "Search" but I need to know how that dropdown down is usually created and the path is added to it. What if I want to use a different path for the file and need to modify the existing path?

It is "Links" module in version 6.x and I am trying to figure out how these dropdowns are setup for "File Location" and "File Name"
