I want to have a public facing home page that changes appearance when the user is logged in. My approaches:

  1. Splash Page: This page shows up on arrival to the site, but doesn't replace the home page once the unsigned in person starts clicking around.
  2. Set modules to show up for All Users, but not Registered users (for the public), and for registered users (when signed in) This is a pain to edit/organize, and there are a few other site editors who woudl still see the public facing modules. Uggg.
  3. Put in some code to redirect logged in users to a 2nd home page? Anyone have sample code for this, if it does work?
  4. What else to try?!

Thanks for any other ideas!

Is Admin/Site Settings/User Account Settings/Login Settings/Redirect After Login a bad solution for your case?

Thanks Greg!

This site is for an Emergency Operations Center on our earthquake prone island near Seattle.

I basically want the home screen to be a lite marketing piece (redirecting to other sites) for the public. When volunteers and staff sign on, I want to home page to be a 'dashboard' of links into the site and summaries of information from there.

As I understand it, using your solution, users would only get sent to the dashboard page once, after logging in, not whenever they returned "home".

If there is no simple solution for this I think I'll just create a new "Dashboard" page and just make that super prominent (as much as the home page) to avoid editors and admins from seeing both pages mixed together. And then I can use your good idea to start the user off at the dashboard page after they've logged in.

If the solution previously mentioned by me doesn't suit your needs and you're not afraid of touching the skin code then have a look at Timo's 40 fingers Style Helper Skin Object.

Though I haven't used it myself you may find some of the features quite promising, especially the "Redirect to another URL (based on filters)" option.
