Hi All,

I am having a problem which only occurs intermittently, when opening the site a windows login dialog box opens.

The only way of getting into the site is to cancel the dialog and then press f5 to refresh, the site then appears as normal.

As I said the problem only occurs intermittently, and I'm not sure what actually causes it, whilst it is not too much of a pain to me I'm not sure any vistors will know how to get past this dialog.

Can anybody shed any light on this problem and suggest a fix?

P.S. Have approached my host and they say the problem is in DNN not on their side.

If you've got a default installation --- no Active Directory integration and using the default authentication mode set in web.config (forms authentication) --- then this has to be an issue with permissions set by the host.

It's helpful if you can track down exactly which files bring up that prompt.  But I'd suggest looking for a new host instead.

Can anybody offer anything constructive?

I tend to agree with my host, as 4.0.2 worked fine its only since upgrading to 4.3.x that the problem has occurred.

The Windows login dialogue is opened only when there are file permissions issues; it's impossible for it *not* to be an issue with the host.  They can run a tool to determine where the permissions violations are happening, or you can troubleshoot it yourself by taking note of which URLs have the problem and thoroughly examining everything called by the page at that URL.  It's a lot of troubleshooting work, I would just switch hosts, but if you're dedicated to staying with them --- I can pretty much guarantee it's a permissions issue --- you need to pin down specifically which files are having the problems, with that methodology I just described.

If 4.0.3 works perfectly then as far as I can see it must be something that has changed in the code for 4.3.3 that is causing this problem.

There are a number of posts from a lot of other users reporting the same problem, and it seems the only way to correct it is to remove all security from the site which is plainly barking.

I experience this problem when accessing the site for the first time after making a change to the web.config file or uploading a new module, when clicking on the return link after it has installed.
