Environment: IIS6 / DNN 4.3.3

Sites start to display 'Service Unavailable' after one or two (and in one case, in the middle of a load) pageloads. Looking in IIS manager, the Application pool that the site I tried to access has been shut down, and also the app pool of the second DNN install has been shut down (with no one trying to access that site as it is dev).

I tried disabling the 'after x errors shut down the pool' (default 5) on the site properties, to no effect.

The only major change of note I made recently was adding a second DNN install on the server, but even then, this error didn't pop up immediately. A reboots and recycling have no effect.

I think the error of note in the server log is Warning W3SVC 0 1011.

This can happen if two websites mapped to different versions of the .net framework load into the same application pool .e.g www.site1.com is an asp.net 1.1 site and www.site2.com is an asp.net 2.0 site, but both are in the same application pool, as pools cannot have 2 different versions of asp.net and crash

Both application pools are .NET 2.0. There was 1 site per pool.

As a test early on, I tried removing one of the pools completely; no effect.
