my site is currently down.  All I am getting on the site is "An error has occurred." written twice.  The query string has the message:

Default.aspx?tabid=36&error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0

i tried restarting etc.  but no good.  I'm running sql server 2005 on windows server 2003 enterprise with DNN 4.3.0.

Any tips for debugging this?

Here are a few things to look at:

  1. Are there any relevant messages in the server's application log?
  2. Are you able to bring up any static (not asp.net files) from the same web site --- such as logo.gif?
  3. What happens if you try going to other tab ids on the site?

Are you using a dedicated server?  If so, the application log is in the, most likely familiar, event viewer.

tab id 36 is the home page of a default installation.  Try changing it to search results (change the 36 to 37) and see what that does.  Also, try appending the URL with "&ctl=login" (without the quotes) and see what that does.
