login as host or admin and go to the module you want to disable.  Mouse over the arrow and click on "settings".  If "Inherit View permissions from Page" is checked, then uncheck it and make sure

View and Edit

All Users

Registered

Subscribers etc.      Are all unchecked and by default the Admin must be checked and click "update"  you will notice that the mod will be highlighted in red and only the Admin can view it.

That will only hide the module on the page from a visitor to the page.  I think the question is really about how to hide modules in the module drop-down list so it cannot be added to a page at all.

This is a fairly simple task.  Login as the host and go to the Host/Module Definitions screen.  Edit the module you want to hide and check the premium box that appears just above the update/cancel/delete buttons.  This will mean that the module is only available to portals that have been assigned this module (the UI for assigning modules is enabled after checking the box).  Now just click the update button, and that module will no longer be visible in the Module dropdown list.

NOTE:  If the module is already being used in a portal, it will continue to function. No new instances of the module will be able to be added using the module drop-down list.
