Hey guys - I've developed a smallish DNN site on my home machine and would like to get this running on a web host.  I copied all the files up there and now I'm having a hard time getting the database stuff to work.  When I bring up my site, instead of my page it shows a partial DNN installation screen followed by an error - so obviously my db is not in a good state.

The host doesn't allow me to copy and attach to an existing .mdf so I have to do this via scripting.  What I'm doing: From SQL Management studio, I do tasks/'generate scripts' and then tell it 'all objects' - I dump this to a .sql file then run that file on a newly created database on the host.  My second step has been to select Tasks/Export data, and select the host's database as the destination.  During this step most things run fine, but I have gotten a couple of errors such as "Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Procedure GetEventsByDate, Line 22 Invalid column name 'AltText'." and "Cannot add rows to sysdepends for the current object because it depends on the missing object Forum_ModerateThreadMove'. The object will still be created."

Anyway, if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong or an easier way to go about it, I'd much appreciate the advice.  I've been banging my head on the keyboard for half a day on this :)

Thanks,

Bob

You are in for a bunch of problems trying to copy data that has defined constraints. Simply appending data will assign different primary keys that will definately not match the related table keys, and the order of dependencies is not worth the effort to figure out.

Try using Tasks, Copy Database and follow the instructions.

Unfortunately, my web host (lfchosting) doesn't allow copying (or as mentioned attaching to an existing mdf) - just scripting.  Can anyone recommend a <cheap> hosting service that would allow me to have copy access or attach the .mdf?

Thanks

Bob
