Does anyone know of a way or of a module that will allow you to set  "home" folders for users referencing their username?

example: Joe Smoe sets ups USER ID: JSMOE at www.portal.com

His home folder would be www.portal.com/jsmoe

I did some digging around on this but I've had no luck.

Any feedback would be greatly apprecitated.

Regards,

-Carlos

What are you trying to do? Do they have their own management area? Are they uploading pictures?  Do they use it for advertising?

A bit more information would help becuase it's not totally clear what you actually want to do with it.

Nina,

It's for the blog module and possiby other modules down the road (such as gallery).

Right now if users want to get to their blog they have a long URL that makes no sense to them.

Hmm. .. yes the names are long.. have you thought about implementing the HRef Friendly urls? I use them on my site and on many client sites - the one thing that is different about this method of friendly urls, is no matter how deeply nested the site is - if the names are unique (no duplicates) then it will always call up the URL and page name.

For example - http://www.catalooksupport.com/chapter-1.aspx  is a child in a menu. and in this site - http://www.schoolofgann.com/services.aspx  Services is a child of sub menu - so it's nested deeply. But because the URLS are unique - it pulls them up as per a single page.

I don't think this is the complete solution to your problem, but I can suggest something that will give you a more intuitive name for your users, which might help you along the way.

The only other thing I can think of is using child portals.. but that may not be what you want to do.

Nina,

Thanks for the help!  I checked the module you recomended and it seems to work very simlar to ISAPI Rewrite from Helicon.  My host supports this at no extra cost so I think will just use that as a last resort.  I am looking for a way so that people can register and specify a /subdomain to quicky access their root folder.

Thanks again,

-Carlos
