Hi folks.
Just starting out on the DNN trail and have V3.3.5 installed on XP Pro with SQL2000, .NET 1.1 and VS2003.  All installs properly but when I add a parent protal, I get a new directory under Portals but no way to access the new portal.  The contents of the new directory are the portal.css and some JPGs.  I put in an HTTP alias of localhost/test1 but this does not appear in the IIS virtual directories anywhere.
I've searched thro' the help and forums with no joy - can't help thinking there's something else I should have done to make the new portal accessible.
Anyone help?

Alister

The http alias shouldn't appear anywhere in the IIS virtual directories.  It's just in the host settings for the portal (accessible either in the Portals page under the Host menu, or if you are logged in as host then it will appear at the bottom of the Site Settings page in the Admin menu).

Thanks for that.

Here's what I've found:

The only way I can access the newly created portal is to make a new virtual directory in IIS.   The alias (localhost/test1) does appear as you say, in the site settings screen, but I have to make an IIS virtual directory test1, the physical location of which is the DNN root directory.  The other thing is to set the Application Name on this virtual directory to DotNetNuke.

Do that and browse to localhost/test1 - and it works fine.

I suppose I assumed DNN would do that automatically when the new portal is created.

Cheers,

Alister
