I have a web page with a Text/html module in which i have several hyperlinks to documents for download.  I want to make this page available to All users but only registered users be able to download the file.  I have set the page settings to view for all users and have set the permissions for the folder where the documents are located to Subscribers and registered users.  However, when clicking on the link without loggin in to the site, the documents opens.  What am i doing wrong?

You could use Nelson's Files from www.OnyakTech.com to get more control over this.  It also includes and admin utility and a links module.  It's not exactly what you asked for, but it will get the job done.

I confirm this being an issue, that will (hopefully) be solved in the next DNN version. I recommend to grant explicitly permission to unauthenticated users to circumvent it.

Sebastian,

I think you are suggesting the opposite of what I am trying to do.  I have granted all users view access to the page that contains the hyperlinks to documents.  By virtue of the fact that the user can see the page, he seems to inherit the permission to download the file by clicking on the link.  I want to force the user to be a registered user in order to download the file.  Additionally, I do not want to use the file manager or document module because I need to add more descriptive text than what those modules allow.

Oscar,

sorry, I must have misunderstood your idea. In general, DotNetNuke does not destinguish between viewing and downloading, so anyone, who can view a picture is able to download it. In DNN 3.3.5/4.3.5 secure folders have been introduced, have a look into the file manager (note, that you need to choose folder type prior to its creation). Any module supporting secure folders can now place links to files, that are only accessible by using these links. AFAIK, these are currently Documents and UserDefinedTable (download datatype) only.
