We're building a new website using DNN4.3.5. This morning as I added a new text/html box to the front page I did a preview and noticed that all skinning disappeared.

I discovered that the Microsoft error reporting tool was running on the server. I had to disable it as is used 100% cpu and 700mb of memory. Now, the site wont run. Well, the production site (classic ASP) is running fine, but the new test site is taking almost all ressources of the server and I get a timeout after a few minutes of waiting when I try to browse the site.

So, now I have a site that is not working at all - I discovered these in the system log:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: W3SVC
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1009
Date:  20/10/2006
Time:  11:26:41
User:  N/A
Computer: G145
Description:
A process serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' terminated unexpectedly. The process id was '2552'. The process exit code was '0x800703e9'.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

We have 2 weeks worth work in this site and no backup (yet), so I desperately need help as we're scheduled to go on official test on Mondag morning. Heeeeeeelp!

Maybe I should elaborate on the subject since I cannot do anything about the server anyway ...

What I'm suspecting is that a module that I installed is acting up - Specifically I installed the Onyak Report module this morning. It worked just so I gave no further thought to it and I moved on to do other things.

I need to look at some logs to see what part of DNN is causing the problem and a way to delete the module (which I suspect it is) by accessing only the database. I'm quite confident with SQL, but I don't know the structure of the DNN db and I would rather not just speculate.

Have you restarted IIS or re-booted the server?

Yes, I tried a restart.

Just a few minutes ago I had a major breakthrough. I renamed the Skins and Container folders in the \Portals\_Default folder. That allowed the site to load so much that at least I got a 'module load error' message from the website. Now I'm logged on to the site and am browsing the logs.

It appears there is some issues with localization and/or skinz. I notied in filemon that the iis process was spending insane amounts of time looking at 'Locales.Portal-0.xml' which only contains this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<locales>
 <inactive>
 </inactive>
</locales>

While the server was chewing on that file IE was waiting for a response - I killed IIS and that appearantly freed up what was needed to get through since that was how I got into the website again.

Not sure where to go or what to look for, but as said - there are to places to look: localization and skinning. Since I haven't fiddled with skinning for days and I installed Danish localization last night, I have a pretty good idea what area to concentrate on ... But I have no clue how I should proceed.

great. now i got something working. I am not entirely sure what went wrong, but reverting to a standard skin seemed to help.... a bit.

Now I cannot log on to the site - when I enter my credentials the progress bar in IE goes up and finishes in 1 second but I don't get logged on.

Anybody??
