Hi, friends. We're interested in implementing a blogging tool for our campus and have been less than impressed by other products. We're looking for a blogging tool that connects to the Active Directory and enables pulling users' groups from the AD. Then the user would see and have access to blogs based on his/her AD group. For example, faculty who log in would see a different set of blogs; students would see something else; and so forth.

To help us pitch this product to our manager, ve've got a few questions that we hope you can help with,

  • Is it possible to tie a user to his/her AD group with DotNetNuke?
  • Can users be pre-populated into DNN from the AD, so that their roles are set when they log in, or would this be done the first time they log in?
  • What's the pricing/licensing on DNN?
  • Is DNN open-source?

Thank you.
