Lately we have been looking at deploying a fairly large site on DNN 4.3.5. The typical user load is a constant 400 - 500 people on the site with peaks up to 2000, not huge but fairly consistent. Our hardware has a "lot of grunt", I can get more specific if required but it is fairly monstrous.

We have experienced some surprising results during the Performance testing phase. The tests I mention below were run for about 400 concurrent users.

DotNetNuke 4.3.5 response times for a plain install were far from satisfatory. Then, once, we had added a large amount of "Menu Items" the site quickly became unresponsive and completely choked. We tried this with the Solpart and Telerik RAD menus with the same results.

The surprising thing for us is that DotNetNuke 3.3.6 under exactly the same conditions showed a dramatic improvement in performance over 4.3.5.

Has anyone else got experience of Load, Performance testing DNN, I'd love to hear of your experience. Also, any input on why the menus in version 4 seem to degrade performance "more" than those in version 3.x. would be appreciated.

You will want to compare 4.3.6 with 3.3.6 (instead of 3.3.5) to get a true comparison.

The next version of DNN (4.4) will have even more performance improvements, so you may want to wait on that for a final determination.

Also, I have a module that does dynamic page caching called PageBlaster which should help a lot.

It sounds like you have a good controlled environment for load testing.

I have looked at performance of DNN quite a bit.  If you contact me through the e-mail in my profile, I'd be interested in working more directly with you to see if there are some other improvements that can be made.
