Declic,

Regarding the section of instructions near the end of the NorternStar page:

From what I can understand by glancing there, it seems this section is not necessary. (In fact, I didn't do it.)
But it results in a smoother use of the intended URL for the site.
And maybe improves some security also.

I do plan on implementing this final section maybe tonight or tomorrow.

Then I think I will go back to the /portal path and "unset" permissions. And see if this makes for a useable DNN site -- or not.

By the way, I am testing all of this manual DNN 4.3.7 stuff at http://www.jdphotographystl.com

Thanks,
Travis

Can someone please be specific in what you did to the web.config file to get the "root" install to work?  I don't understand.  You need the fresh web.config so you can get your machine keys, etc., right?

What folder did you copy it to and from, etc?

Thanks.

As DNN was down for a few days (or at least for me, site wouldn't open) I was left to my own devices.  I did a GoDaddy Value Application installation and then just moved everything up one folder.  (I did set a portal alias that points to my site via the root folder first.)

It is working great.

I have access to all of my folders, even the one the installer created for me.  I use the economy plan.  Also, I think someone wrote that the database created by the Value Applications installer did not count against you; that has changed.  That MS SQL database counts as my one and I'm not allowed to create any others unless I upgrade.

The next thing I might try is a manual upgrade to 4.03.07 or I may wait until 4.04.00 is released.
