I have a site that I want to build but the users belong to groups and I want the features of the site to be group focused.  For example, when user A logs in then the features of the site (listing users, reports, etc) only apply to members of his group.  However, I would like to use the forums feature of DNN across all users of the site.  Is there any good way to subdivide the users like this into groups?

Thanks
Reggie

Reggie,

The DNN User ROLES seem to closely match your need for Groupa.  ROLES will allow you to control what users can do on a DNN site.

Hope this helps
Paul.

Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately roles will not work as I have a need to use the roles system in each group.

Maybe I misunderstand your question, but won't userroles do just that?

Define; UserRoleA, UserRoleB, UserRoleC

FeatureX, visibility UserRoleA

FeatureY, visibility UserRoleB and UserRoleC

FeatureZ, visibility UserRoleA and C

Forum, visibility UserRoleA, UserRoleB and C ?

You should give a more detailed example.  Based on your first example, roles will work just fine.  Create a role for every single thing you want to control access to.  Grant the role to the user's that you want to have access.

In your example, create a role for listing users, a role for reports, a role for etc, and a role for the forum.  You will need to assign each user the individual roles that the user should have, based on the access you want the user to have.

I think you'll looking for a way to specify a set of roles with one easy click, kinda like a user security template, if you will.  That would be really nice.  But I don't know of a way to do it in DNN.  That would be a great enhancement to put in Gemini: http://support.dotnetnuke.com/Main.aspx
